Purpose of the flight and payload description

The objective of the flight was to obtain the distribution of atmospheric ozone using an optical spectrometer. A secondary goal of the mission was to measure the amount of nitrogen in the high stratosphere, and to perform observations of the gravity waves over a wide area.

The balloon, with a volume of 10.000 m3 was launched at 5:41 Japan Standard Time on May 15, 2013 from the Taiki Aerospace Research Field in the island of Hokkaido, northern Japan. It reached an altitude of 43 km in a point located 50 km to the East of Taiki, over the Ocean.
