Purpose of the flight and payload description

The reference for this flight came from two old 4" x 5" acetate negative of balloons carrying cosmic ray detection equipment being released at the University of Chicago campus on October 9, 1948. According to the caption, it was expected to collect data on the meteor shower that was to occur that same night.
