This "UFO", in reality a high altitude balloon with several instrument
packages below it (arrows), was reported to a radio station by a motorist who
was quite concerned for her safety and claimed it was following her.
This photo was taken through a 31cm Newtonian at a focal length of 3350mm
in July 1985. Sunlight glinting off the balloon appeared as a bright
light in the late morning sky of about magnitude -8. The balloon was visible
for about 6 hours through a telescope as it slowly drifted across the
sky at an altitude of perhaps 15 or 20km.
